Hair types Hair type plays a major role in determining how your stylist will cut your hair. The angle of the cut is the key difference between an OK cut and a great cut!

Coarse Hair has an overall heavy look - one that makes a statement. Cut is very important and a haircut that shapes the face will also help control the hair. Coloring will soften the texture by filling in and smoothing out the cuticle. |

Straight Hair can be thick or thin but when in perfect, shiny condition; it gives the impression of a shimmering sheet of hair. A straight, blunt cut to the length you decide is best. A body wave will create movement and curlers will help add height. |

Curly Hair is perhaps the most versatile. You can blow-dry it straight, use rollers of various sizes to adjust the natural curls, or let it go soft and curly on its own. |

Face Shapes & Complementing Hairstyles

Heart shaped faces are widest at the forehead and then narrow to a small, delicate chin. The trick for a heart shaped face is to create width around the slender chin area, making it appear wider. For example a chin length bob hairstyle achieves this effect. Another look that makes the face appear longer and in turn emphasizes the eyes is side-parted hair brushed off the forehead. |

Oval shaped faces slightly taper at the jaw line then end in a subtly pointed chin. This face shape gives a person the most freedom to experiment with different hairstyles. All hairstyles suit this balanced shape. It looks best to style hair away from the face. Slicked back styles look great! |

Round shaped faces are circular shaped with fullness at or below the cheekbones. The goal for this shape is to lift the hair at the crown while keeping hair close to the sides of the face in order to make the face appear more oval. A layered shaggy hairstyle works well. Avoid chin-length hair because it exaggerates the natural roundness of the face. |

Square shaped faces have a strong broad jaw line with nearly equal widths between the forehead, cheekbones and jaw line. Curly or wavy hair is great for this shape because it softens the edges of the face. Wispy layers and/or long bangs swept to the side complement this facial shape.

Additional tips: Remember to accentuate your best facial features. Try to incorporate your hair’s natural type (curly, straight, wavy, etc) into your hairstyle. If you love your hairstyle when you leave the salon, but it never looks that way again... don't blame your hair stylist. Ask how to style your hair and what tools and products you should be using.
